Tiger Safaris: Leading Fishing Camp, Lower Zambezi
Tiger Safaris is located a short distance from the Chirundu border post. A beautifully designed fishing camp that offers both self-catering chalets and also full board catered chalets.
The camp is situated on the Lower Zambezi River, downstream of the Kariba Dam wall and very close to Chirundu town.
The safari camp is well presented will green lawns, braai (BBQ) areas which are perfect for relaxing when you are not on the Zambezi river catching fish. The camp also has a swimming pool which is perfect for cooling down after your fishing expeditions.
Fishing in Chirundu
The Zambezi River is full of freshwater species that you are able to catch when you stay at Tiger Safaris.
The most prolific fish is the Tigerfish. The Tigerfish is one of the best fighting fish and this is why anglers come from around the world. It is an apex predator of the Zambezi and will give all fishermen a rush of adrenaline.
Other species that you will catch include Vundu, Catfish, Electric barbel, Squeaker, Bream (tilapia) and Chessa.
Tiger Safaris Accommodation
As stated above, there are two types of accommodation offered at the Tiger Safaris fishing camp.
Self-catering river chalets and Full board chalet & family unit.
Self-catering river chalets
There are 5 self-catering chalets that are situated on the banks of the Zambezi River which are available for hire. Each chalet can sleep up to six people and is equipped with everything you will need to make your stay very enjoyable.
Full board chalet & family unit
For fully inclusive there are two options.
The first is their newly built two bedroomed en-suite chalet which is situated at the back next to the swimming pool.
The second option is their new family unit which is a three bedroom chalet that comes with aircon. It has an open plan kitchen/dining area and a veranda and braai area.
Both accommodation options are allowed to enjoy their new bar and kitchen.
Tiger Safaris Fishing & Boat Hire
The Zambezi river is renowned around the world as one of the best rivers to fish with its huge variety of fish species.
Tiger Safaris practices “Catch & Release” and they expect all clients to do the same. This is done to preserve the natural habitat of the Zambezi River for future generations to come.
If you hire a boat from Tiger Safaris camp, you will be escorted by a skilled driver and fishing guide who will ensure that you catch and also that your fish are released safely.
Fishing Boat Hire
Tiger Safaris has a wide selection of fishing boats for you to hire. You have the choice of 4 river runners, 2 sportsters, 1 osprey and a pontoon.
Depending on if you want to go fishing, sunset cruises or game drives by boat along the Zambezi River, they have you covered.
Each boat will come with a guide who knows where the fish are biting or where to find game along the shores of the river.

Fishing with Tiger Safaris
The Tigerfish is the king of the Zambezi River and is what all anglers want to catch but they are not the biggest fish in the river. There are over 45 different fish species that you will have the chance to catch.
The Vundu is the biggest fishing that you will catch and they will give you a hell of a fight.
More common fish that you will catch is Nkupi & Chessa who are the feistiest fish to catch, they might be smaller than the Tigerfish and the Vundu but they will give you a great fishing experience.
A treat for all fishermen is the Bream, a tasty fish that will be enjoyed when back at camp.
